Client: Multinational Property and Infrastructure Company

Challenge

The Group Head of Culture and Head of HR, Europe at a major multinational property and infrastructure company, asked forward thinking inc to:

  • Identify and understand the drivers behind the global decline in employee engagement results relating to leadership

  • Deliver a proof of concept in using online forums to engage effectively with employees, demonstrating the benefits of using a dynamic, scalable and cost-effective channel to attain high quality actionable insight.

Approach

DESIGN: Bespoke forum questions and tailored quantitative ‘mini-surveys’ were designed based on specific themes determined through a review of relevant internal documentation and interviews with key internal stakeholders.

PILOT: An online forum was piloted with 50 employees in Europe to test levels of engagement with non desk-based construction workers, effectiveness of forum design, size and demographics of groups.

REFINE: Insight from the pilot forum was used to develop a headline findings report to support understanding of key issues - demonstrating insight and output expected from a global rollout. Using key learnings from the pilot, the forum design, structure and materials were refined for global rollout.

ROLLOUT: Five additional online forums globally spanning Asia, Australia and the US. The rollout was sequenced to ensure regional traction and opportunities to test and develop emerging hypotheses. The size of online forums by region was driven by employee population size, business unit split and time zone factors.

ANALYSIS: Extensive qualitative feedback from employees, responses to quantitative ‘mini-surveys’ and ideas for change were analysed by forward thinking inc to draw key insights from the research programme.

Outcome

A compelling output pack detailing key drivers behind decline in leadership scores, exploring differences by segment (e.g. region, role, age, business unit) highlighting key focus areas for the company moving forward and presenting ‘user generated’ ideas for improvement.
