Client: Multinational Steel Company

Challenge

A major supplier to the European automotive sector needed to take a long-term look at the future of the sector to enable them to plan effectively for a range of potential scenarios.

We were invited to lead their scenario-planning programme to test existing client assumptions and strategic plans as a prompt for their future strategy development.

Approach

SITUATION ASSESSMENT & HYPOTHESIS DEVELOPMENT: The development of a strategic situation assessment and hypothesis for scenario thinking built on findings from an extensive desk research programme and expert interviews with key players, academics and industry experts across Europe.

SCENARIO BUILDING: Creating three ‘strategic’ scenarios, using our proprietary ‘scenario thinking’ framework, bringing these to life through a series of illustrated storyboards, with supporting logic.

WORKSHOP PROGRAMME: A programme of workshops with the European senior management team to review the scenarios and consider strategic implications.

STRATEGIC PLANNING GUIDELINES: Development of a series of recommendations for the client’s long-term strategic planning, informed by the scenario planning exercise.

Outcome

Scenarios developed, allowing European senior management to test and develop their long term strategic plans, with our support.
