As a consultancy we are increasingly being asked by clients to apply our strategic skills to the area of workplace change.

In between our regular bi-monthly newsletter we thought some of you might be interested in our perspective on the link between corporate strategy and workplace strategy. Please let us know if you agree with our perspective. We would be very interested to hear from you with your thoughts and experiences in your own companies.

Workplace strategy in context

Too often corporate strategy and workplace strategy are ineffectively linked. Real Estate and workplace strategists are not always fully engaged with the broader strategy agenda of the business and CEO's, Finance Directors, HR Directors and Marketing Directors not aware of the full potential of the workplace to impact and facilitate broader business strategy execution.

Workplace changes can, for example, signal a change in overall strategic direction for the business, help to articulate an evolution in corporate culture, dramatise the corporate brand and facilitate changes in organisational behaviour such as creative interaction and the cross-fertilisation of ideas. These impacts are real, can be measured and are relatively easy to achieve. However, more usually, workplace strategy is approached in narrower terms, framed by the need to reduce operating cost, integrate an acquisition or respond to a lease break.
